The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of South Africa, Ilya Rogachev, said that in 2023 South Africa became the most popular tourist destination for Russians in Sub-Saharan Africa. More than 28,000 Russians visited South Africa, which is 75 percent higher year-over-year, Cape Town being the most popular destination.

No direct flights between Russia and South Africa hinder traveling. Another inconvenience is the fact that, at the moment, Russian bank cards do not work in South Africa.
