How did Sverdlovsk help anti-apartheid fighters? In 1985, Komsomol members of Sverdlovsk (today known as Yekaterinburg) collected and sent 20 tons of humanitarian aid to South African anti-apartheid fighters.

Two weeks prior to the elections in South Africa (May 29), The Urals and South Africa against Racism: Past and Present international scientific seminar was dedicated to that event. The seminar was organized by the Chair of Oriental Studies of Ural Federal University (URFU), the Institute of African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), and the Office of Honorary Consul of South Africa in Yekaterinburg.

HC Sergey Mazurkevich delivered greeting remarks.
